Day 53

We've been here for 24 hours. Naomi is doing wonderfully.

She slept brilliantly through the evening. Me, not exactly so much. Every little pip and grunt and squeak was cause for me to fly awake and listen. Turns out, this baby grunts and squeaks a lot. Even though she's on this monitor, so we know she's perfectly fine, we're a little prone to paranoia. It worked out fine, though. William got some sleep overnight and took over the vigilance duty in the morning, when I got a few hours of mostly sleep. Nana came back and took over this afternoon, so William's off visiting Lillian, I got another catnap and Naomi's been busy entertaining her grandmother.

Afternoon Conversation With a Baby:

Mom (holding baby, looking adoringly into her eyes): I love you!

Baby: Giant smile

Mom and Nana: much exaltation and praise

Mom: (touching baby lightly on button nose) You're just perfect!

Baby: Giant smile.

Mom and Nana: dissolve into teary joyful laughter

Baby: Continue giant smile for duration of laughter.

So, yeah. It's going just fine.

Happiest of New Years, everyone.

Day 52: There really is no place like home.

We've tried again. We are nestled in at home. This time is going much, much better. Currently, Naomi is snuggled in Daddy's arms, recuperating from a wicked case of the hiccups. So far, thankfully, that has been the hardest part of her day.

That, and we haven't put her down yet. It's only been 5 hours!

She should be able to handle it, as she is now a big girl, 5lbs1oz. The preemie sized outfit we brought her home in is almost too small! I'm sure she'll still swim in the newborn stuff, though.

Lillian is still hanging out at Hillcrest. I went to visit her this evening while Nana and William took care of Naomi. She was making room for new neighbors, who will have to endure her stinkiness. She is weighing in at 4lb11oz. Her eyelashes continue to grow longer by the day. (I miss her.)

Another perk of having baby home? I have to stay in here and supervise while William takes out the trash. Brr.

Off into the wilds of the night we go. So far, so good.

Psst. There's a baby that lives here now.

Psssst. Soon, there will be two.

Day 51

Today, we got schooled.

We learned all about the monitors that will follow our babies home.

Tomorrow, it happens again. We will take Naomi home for the second time. Think good thoughts for us.

Tonight, we aim to get a full night's sleep for the last time in a while.

To that now.

Day 50: Elementary, My dear Watson.

For a day where we got 4-6 inches of snow and spent most of it at a hospital, yesterday was pretty great!

Nana met us there to visit the girls and we all spent hours holding and snuggling babies. It makes for a wonderful day. They seem to really enjoy being held, just flopping into your chest, arms spread wide, face smooshed. Their heads are at the perfect height for sniffing and kissing.

William and I did get out to see Sherlock Holmes last night in the snowy madness. We had attempted this feat Saturday night, but it sold out while we were standing in line. Oh, well. We were forced to go back and hang out with babies. In the long run, the movie was thoroughly enjoyable, but even better, the theater is right acorss the street from the hospital and once we were finished, back we went.

The girls were weighed last night. Lillian's tipping the scales at 4lbs9oz! Her sister is knocking on yet another door at 4lb14!! Combined, they finally weight more than Jack did at birth. (They're 7 weeks old today.) It's amazing how much bigger they feel in our arms. Trying to find space to arrange both of them there is almost a challenge.

The hospital staff was having a bit of actviity with one of the babies in the nursery so, for everyone's privacy, we were shooed into the little breastfeeding room. The girls were unplugged from the monitors (which only made me panic for a little while), and off we carried them into privacy and comfort. Someone had left the little tiny television on. We found a Law and Order episode, settled in with our snuggly babies and pretended it was home. Not a terrible way to spend an evening.

Day 48: Blog Inauguration Day

It's hard to say Blog Inauguration. Try it.

We spent a wonderful Christmas with the Naomi and Lillian, dithering about the hospital for most of the day. We interrupted precious baby time to come back to our house and enjoy another Meals on Wheels special dinner packed and provided by Nana and Papa. Grandma Rand joined us and made it a perfect family celebration. The girls would like to send her a happy birthday wish today as well.

We went back for the evening and held and fed both girls, who are now off of their very-easy-to-replicate 3 hour schedule. Now, they're every 3 to 4 hours. This might not sound too different, but it's based on baby request, so they are definitely not as predictable as they once were.

Photos were also taken in their absolutely precious Christmas outfits, but I haven't uploaded those yet. Soon. (I see a need for more hard drive in my future.)

I hope you all had a marvelous holiday and got to spend it full of love and tastiness. We certainly did.
